webCampus Copyright Statement

University of Western States supports and encourages the legitimate use of educational materials to enhance the teaching, learning, and research activities of the university and its students. Textbooks, reference works, journal articles, computer software, databases, and electronic documents are protected by copyright law. A teacher or student must either have an express or implied license to use copyrighted material or data, as defined by the Digital Millennium Copyright Act of 1998 (www.copyright.gov/) or establish fair use by means of the fair use guidelines.  Students, faculty, and staff are responsible for understanding how copyright law applies to the use of electronic and printed resources. They may not violate the copyright protection of any of these resources.

Downloading and/or distributing copies in physical or electronic form without permission from the copyright owner or agent, and that exceed fair use guidelines, is illegal. UWS will cooperate with copyright holders to identify individuals who violate the law. Students, faculty, and other campus users of copyrighted materials should refer to the Copyright.gov website and Policy 1605 – Use of Copyrighted Works in Education and Research for further information.

If you have questions or would like additional information about copyright compliance and fair use, please contact the UWS W.A. Budden Library. Faculty should also go the library’s Copyright and Fair Use resource page.
